Hot forging press is equipment used for hot forging operations. Forging press may be indicated as the machinery for metal shaping that is placed between two special dies by applying pressure.

Hot forging can be defined as a metal forming process in which a malleable metal part, known as a billet or workpiece, is worked to a predetermined shape by one or more operations such as hammering, upsetting, pressing and so forth where the workpiece is heated up to about 75% of its melting temperature.

Hot forging operations are carried out with an open die. Open die forging is the operation of deforming a piece of metal between special dies that do not completely enclose the material.

Hot forging press is equipment used for hot forming metal. Hot forming is a process of metal forming that is also known as hot forging or press hardening.

As a result of the process, complex parts with protrusions and depressions are obtained. On the equipment it is possible to produce the following variants of forgings:

  • rods with flanges;
  • retaining rings;
  • cups with a complex profile;
  • upsetting pipe ends.

Hot forging presses by Kuzlitmash are mechanical. A mechanical press machine features high production performance while a hydraulic press offers higher flexibility for more complecated forming processes.

The press is a vertical type machine and should consist of the following main components:

a) Frame: detachable, closed (O-type), assembled from a table and a U-shaped body, which are spatial all-welded annealed structures connected into a single whole by means of four tie rods tightened with nuts. Mutual displacement of the frame parts is prevented by feather keys in the places where the table is separated from the body.

b) The table (resting its paws on the foundation) is the base of the press.

The drive of the slide is mounted in the body, as well as the clutch and brake; reinforced adjustable slide guides; there are sockets for installing slide balancers; openings are provided through which it is possible to supply blanks and remove stamped parts; there are machined base surfaces around the openings, allowing to mount mechanization and automation means if necessary;

c) A hydraulic system is permanently installed in the upper nuts of the tie rods, which allows tightening the frame with the required calculated torque, as well as acting as a mechanism for removing the press from the thrust in case of jamming of the slide.

d) service platform, a fence and a ladder are provided on the upper part of the press for convenience and safety of work.

e) Drive: single-stage, with transmission of rotation from the electric motor to the flywheel by V-belt transmission and further torque from the rotating flywheel through the friction clutch mounted on it to the eccentric shaft.

f) The eccentric shaft is unloaded from the impact of the weight of the coupling and the flywheel by installing the flywheel on a separate cup of the frame and is connected to the press slide by two separate connecting rods as close as possible to the shaft supports.

g) The friction clutch is shock-free and the brake is water-cooled to improve performance in the high ambient temperatures found in hot and semi-hot forging operations.

h) To implement the ability to quickly optimize the process parameters (high deformation rate during hot forging almost to the parameters of forging or a less productive, but more accurate process of semi-hot forging), a vector frequency converter is used, which makes it possible to control the speed of the main drive motor depending on the requirements of the technological process selected type, material and type of forged workpiece.

Hot forging presses of OJSC Kuzlitmash have the following features:

  • Increased application zone of eccentric loads due to two separate connecting rods as close as possible to the supports of the eccentric shaft;
  • High rigidity of the press;
  • System of the press jamming fast release: the hydraulic stationary device in the top nuts of coupler hairpins;
  • System of dynamic balancing of moving masses;
  • Friction clutch equipped with shockless engagement system;
  • Brake with water cooling;
  • Control system based on controllers: Siemens, Mitsubishi;
  • Lubrication system: liquid, circulating, dosed, lubrication of all main bearings (Trabon).
  • Pneumatic equipment: based on the world’s leading manufacturers: Cammozi, Pneumoapparat.

It is possible to retrofit the presses with the following additional options (at the request of the customer):

  • Pneumohydraulic cushion;
  • System of fast die change;
  • System of fast die clip;
  • Possibility of equipping with mechanization and automation means.
